This post is in collaboration with Sebel Serviced Apartments Sydney.
At the moment I am loving our family holidays staying at nice resorts. But when it comes to city stays – well you just don’t get all those extras in a city resort; there’s no kids club, no water park and quite often the hotel rooms are much smaller.
So I’ve discovered a better alternative. The serviced apartment.
Why I like serviced apartments vs hotels for city stays.
1 Room to move
As city hotels usually don’t offer all the outdoor extras that we get at an island resort, we need somewhere that our son Lewis can let off a bit of steam. Being in a 28sqm hotel room just doesn’t cut it, we literally are on top off each other. So having an apartment gives us the room to move. There is a lounge area that Lewis can utilise for games and at bed time he can go to sleep without being disturbed by us watching telly or talking.
2. Stylish
One of the reasons we have been staying in nice island resorts is knowing that we are booking a place to stay that is quality and has well established brand behind it. Choosing a serviced apartment like those with Sebel, you know that you are buying the brand and you will get a quality place to stay.
3. Facilities
Whilst the city hotels don’t usually include kids clubs, water parks etc. they do often include a pool and gym and that also goes for the serviced apartments. For us no holiday is complete without being able to splash whatever the weather.
4. Flexibility
As many of you already know – when it comes to kids they just don’t stop eating. Whilst I always pack a selection of Lewis’s favourite snacks, having the flexibility to able to go that step further and provide some nice freshly cut fruit or cheese platters or even some quick meals can be a blessing, which we discovered when we stayed in an apartment on our last family holiday to Bali.
5. Privacy
However to me the trickiest thing with travelling with kids is getting a little bit of mummy and daddy time, especially now that our son is getting older. As a baby it wasn’t too much of an issue, but now at age 8 getting that chance for privacy is almost non-existent without having our own room.

6. Location, location, location
Of course going away isn’t just about the hotel or apartment and particularly so for city stays. It is more about exploring, and to do that you really want to be either centrally located and/or close to public transport. This is something you have to take your time to research, during my research for this article I found these Serviced Apartments Sydney were either close to the beach, city or public transport.
7. Did I mention it was serviced
Lastly but by no means least this is supposed to be a holiday for me too. That means no housework. Serviced apartments are just that serviced; beds are made and rooms are cleaned daily.
To me going away is not only exploring somewhere new but also having some time off together in a bit of luxury.
