When you have a family it can be difficult to choose an appropriate holiday destination. Some members of the family may prefer a beach holiday whilst others may wish to remain active. It may surprise you to know that there are a variety of adventure holidays which can satisfy even the most ardent breach enthusiast! The following five are all worth considering, particularly if you’re travelling with the whole family.

5 Adventure Trips for Families Travelling with Kids

1  Alaska

Alaska is often seen as America’s wild frontier, one of the last places where you can explore without really leaving the country. Instead of booking one of the bigger cruise ships you should look at the smaller ones; these will provide a much better experience! There is something very special about seeing breaching whales and foraging bears as you travel through some of the most impressive glaciers in the world.

The adventure continues on land as you can rent an RV and enjoy a road trip, stopping at the halibut fishing capital of the world; Homer. You can even catch your own dinner. You can even choose to stop and hike along an ice glacier!

2.  Argentina

The locals are extremely friendly and will do everything they can to ensure you have a truly amazing experience whilst visiting their country. The people of this wonderful country love children and will stop whatever they are doing to play with them; it can be quite unnerving at first! There is also an abundance of ice cream flavours for your children to try. To enjoy the adventure you can travel to the Don Silvano Ranch and enjoy a gaucho day trip. Alternatively you can hike in the Tierra del Fuego National Park, enjoy some kayaking or even take a helicopter tour of the impressive Iguazu Falls. For a real experience try the Lujan Zoo and pet a tiger!

3.  Chicago

This city has been known as the Windy City for many years, it has always been a family destination thanks to the world-class museums, art scene and an impressive array of culinary delights from around the world. The Shedd Aquarium and the Field museum are well worth a visit as is the Navy pier. You can also enjoy an open air concert at the Millennium Park. The 606 has also recently opened which will provide you with access to an abundance of bike trails and walking trails. Many of these connect different parts of the old and new city; making every trip an adventure. Every neighbourhood is different and should be visited to really appreciate Chicago.

4.  Galapagos Islands, Ecuador

You may well have heard of Galapagos Islands as being home to the amazing giant tortoise.  However, what you may not realize is the sheer diversity of wildlife that can be witnessed in these islands. There are also sea lions, blue footed boobies and penguins. The area is protected and this will allow you to get up close to these amazing creatures which are unafraid of humans. You can take pictures of whales as they pass by, or you can swim above a school of sharks, you can even choose to stay on a boat rather than one of the hotels!

5.  Glacier National Park, Montana

As its name suggests this national park is an excellent place to see one or all of the twenty-five glaciers. There were as many as one hundred and fifty glaciers in 1850 and this number has drastically reduced.  It is estimated that the twenty-five which are left will be gone within five and fifteen years! Glacier National Park is full of wildlife and hiking trails, providing the opportunity to explore and learn. You can even see some impressive views by driving along the mountainside with huge drops right next to you. Families can also enjoy hiking, horseback riding, fishing and even boating.
