In a recent blog about our day trip to the beach I mentioned picking up our swimming beach bag and heading for the beach. It later occurred to me that perhaps not everyone has a bag permanently packed for swimming. I actually have 2 bags packed for swimming 1 for the beach and 1 for the pool generally for swimming lessons.
Here is a list of items you should be packing for swimming; put one of each item for each person going swimming (except the sunscreen).
My Must Have Items when Swimming with the Kids
Packing for Swimming at the Beach
- Bathers (call them what you will: swimmers, togs, cosi, swimming costume, bathing costume).
- Swim nappy (if you have a baby or toddler)
- Rashie
- Towel
- Hat
- Sunscreen
You may also want:
- Goggles
- Snorkle
- Boogie Board
- Flippers
- Surfboard
- Bucket and spade
Don’t forget to take:
- Shade (umbrella or sunshade)
- Drink
- Food
- Dry clothes and underwear (for the kids after the swim).
Packing for Swimming at the Pool
- Bathers
- Swim nappy (if you have a baby or toddler)

Is there any thing I have forgotten?
Let me know in the comments.
We always have a swimming bag packed too, and when we get home and everything is clean and dry I pack it straight into the bag for the next time!
Yes it makes life much easier than trying to hunt through every-bodies wardrobes to find bathers and towels at the last minute.
what a great list for the hot weather!!!!!!
popping over from FYBF 🙂
Glad you like it!
I need to write these down and keep them in a safe place somewhere. We always seem to forget something!!! Thanks for sharing!
You can always pop back over here we have all sorts of packing lists.
I’ve always thought these lists are useful, but also for different ages. I have a host of nappy supplies to add to it 🙂
Hi,
Thanks for that I had completely forgotten to add swim nappies. I have just amended the list.
Great tips! I will just add that a spare change of clothes to take to the beach is always a good option as well especially if the wind is up a little and the kids complain of being cold 🙂 Julia
Yes Julia we always take a dry set of clothes for my son to put on before we head back home.
Don’t forget food, food, food! When we pack for our toddler to the pool, I think half the bag are snacks for him. It’s such a big production. Somehow we completely lost a prepacked bag from our home too!
I totalling agree Valent. I add the food these days without even thinking about it.
Great list!! I always try to keep a tub packed with items for the beach/pool so we can just pick it up and go (rather than spending an hour trying to find and pack everything). One other handy item to keep in the tub would be some talcum powder to help easily remove the sand of sandy feet.
I’ve never tried using talcum powder for that, thanks for the tip.
It is crazy how much stuff you need with kids!!
I know Anne, it feels like you have to pack half the house every time you step out the door.
