Someone is always bragging about how cheap their next holiday is going to be. You sit there jealous and in awe wondering “How do they always get such cheap deals?”
Well, I’m going to give you some tips to help you get the best deal for your flight or holiday.
Tips to Get Cheap Flights and Holiday Deals
1. To find out where airlines travel to go to “get flights” and use the map mode.
2. Use price comparison websites like Airfares Flights, Expedia, Webjet and Skyscanner.
3. Check agency sites such as holiday planet, escape travel etc. Though I do find them a little tricky as they only quote the lowest fare and this is usually with a discount carrier. But it’s a start.
4. Go to individual airline websites; sign up for emails, “like” them on Facebook and “follow” them on Twitter. They will usually send out a post in advance advising of an up and coming sale. If you’re on the ball you can pick up some great deals.
5. Read the travel section of the paper; airlines and travel agencies are always offering the latest deals.
6. Fly off-peak. That means not in school holidays and if your game with young kids at unsociable hours (the midnight horror) – I have to admit I’m not a fan of that one.
7. Book in advance.
8. Double check all the extras and add-ons. If you are going on a couple of sectors to get to your destination and there are 4 of you, $20 per piece of luggage per sector can get pricey.
9. Finally, I could say just take hand luggage to reduce the cost of luggage fees. But seriously who are we kidding, you’re travelling with kids!
Now that you’ve found the best flight read our tips on “Flying with Kids” to help make your flight and holiday run smoothly.
This is so timely – I am in the process of booking a family holiday x
Oh good, I’m glad we’re still helping you with booking your holiday.
Too true! Thank you for this list!
Your welcome, I hope you find a great deal for your family
Every second post I have read today is about holidays, and now I really want to go on one!!
Must be the season.
We have just booked our next family holiday as I saw a deal in the paper.
tell me the tips help in getting cheap flight in urgent or at a time journey. That have been planned on last night and flight at morning. these tips are helpful in making plan for in advance to journey
Yes most of these tips are for an advanced booking and where you have flexibility in travel.
If you have to travel urgently and at a set time I can only recommend that you use sites such as “Webjet” or “Expediate” where you can input your departure and destination and it will show you all flights and prices that are available for that date.
Sadly this is the problem of travelling at the last minute and I’m not really sure why airlines don’t consider their unsold seats as perishable and therefore try to sell them off cheaply as opposed to not at all.
Other great airfare comparison sites are:
adioso.com
iwantthatflight.com.au
rome2rio.com
Thanks for adding some great sights for our readers to use.
May I also suggest http://www.wego.com.au? It’s been working good for me on flights and hotels booking.
Thanks for the tip George.
There is also a new site launched http://www.hotelscombined.com.au
Love to hear what you and others think
Hotelscombined is pretty good but it’s insufficient for my needs because it doesn’t allow me to find out which specific date is cheapest for checking in/out hotel. Sometimes, I would find the cheapest check in/out date before I decide when to travel.
Hence I would still use Wego for hotels at the moment.
Thanks for your feedback
“Book in advance.”
That is what I always do. Every year we have our travel and a way not to get too costly is to book flights in advance. Thank you mate. This is very helpful.
Whilst this is what I try to do as well Mark, at other times I must admit you can sometimes jag a last minute deal – that’s what I’m currently hoping for.
This is so true! The tips will surely work for me. Thanks so much.
