A year between family holidays is a long time. By the time we depart for this Bali family vacation in the September school holidays we are more than ready for some warm weather, relaxation and fun family times.

To get to this years Bali family holiday we fly with Garuda Indonesia again. We last flew with Garuda Indonesia in early 2015. On my new travel tips blog Tips 4 Trips, I review them once more and show why

On-board Garuda Indonesia
This year (2016) we return to the Sanur Paradise Plaza Suites – the resort had been so good the year before (you can read about what we thought of them last year HERE.) But this year it is a different story. The main features we loved are still there, but overall the quality of the service has deteriorated. You can read all about this years stay on my new travel tips blog Tips 4 Trips.

Poolside at Sanur Paradise Plaza Suites
We actually wished that we were staying at one of their other Prime Plaza Hotels and Resorts, in particular:

Bali Dynasty Resort splash park
One of the most disappointing parts of our stay at the Sanur Paradise Plaza Suites was the poor quality food. Fortunately, there are plenty of other fantastic restaurants throughout Sanur.

Eating out in Sanur
One evening we even go across the island to the town of Seminyak to eat out.
- Fortunately, we aren’t too afraid to eat in Frankenstein’s Laboratory.

The entertainment at Frankenstein’s Laboratory Bali
It is actually quite easy and affordable to hire a driver to get around the island of Bali. We get to know one of the driver’s at our resort and hire him a couple of times. He takes us to:
- Waterbom Bali to enjoy all the thrills and spills of the Kuta splash park

On the Lazy River at Waterbom Bali

Natural Springs Temple
On the days we aren’t out exploring we just enjoy meandering about Sanur. We love walking along the shaded boardwalk, hiring bicycles at a cost of 75 000RPH (2 hours for 3 bikes) to explore further up and down the coast and getting massages.

We even pop over to another Prime Plaza sister hotel in Sanur the tranquil Sanur Paradise Plaza Hotel – which had better quality food.

Whilst the resort didn’t live up to our expectations this year, we still have a wonderful Bali family vacation. Thanks to all the other fantastic places we visit, explore and sample. I can’t wait to start planning another family holiday to Bali.

It’s always good to know what went well and also what didn’t go so well. The water park looks fantastic my children would love it there. It looks like you had a brilliant holiday but shame the service and food at the hotel had gone downhill – frustrating! #TheWeeklyPostcard
It was disappointing that the food wasn’t so good at the hotel Jo. Fortunately, that problem was so easy to solve.
I really want to visit Bali! So nice it is a relatively close destination for you and you are able to visit every year. Since there is so much to do, it feels like you keep discovering places every time you visit. #TheWeeklyPostcard
we are so lucky that it is close Ruth, but every home has its great handy getaway locations.
I highly considered going to Bali for out honeymoon but we opted to do a road trip later this year through the Balkans and every time I see a Bali post, I regret my decision a little bit more! It’s so beautiful!! Happy to join #TheWeeklyPostcard! 🙂
Wow, what diverse choices Lolo – Balkins or Bali, perhaps you can celebrate a milestone marriage year in Bali.
my daughter would love that Hotel pool. between a good pool and a good hotel restaurant I’ll take the pool. As you say, you can always find other places to eat.
So agree Eileen, this is why our stay at Sanur Paradise Plaza suites was still good – great pool, great kids club and good suite – fantastic food everywhere else.
We are still trying to plan our way to Bali, so this is helpful. Had no idea there was a splash park, but honestly – those beaches! Thanks for sharing some of your experiences. #TheWeeklyPostcard
Personally Rob and Ann I wouldn’t go to Bali for the beaches, hang by the pool if you want to cool off, but a stroll along the beach is lovely. Plus there is so much to explore in Bali from temples to theme parks.
Good to know! The temples are one of our big Must See items, and perhaps some sailing. Thanks for the feedback – very helpful!
The temples are interesting and each one different, I’m looking forward to exploring more when we next return to Bali.
Bali (well, whole SEA to be honest) is on our wish list and you’ve been there already twice with your family! That’s so great! To bad the resort was a bit if a disappointment. The activities like cycling and the water park seem great! #fearlessfamtrav
For us living in Australia SEA is our close holiday destination, just as Europe is for those in the Uk and the Carribean is for those in the States. So most years we make it to some port in SEA. My favourite though is Penang Vietnam is next on my wish list) if you ever are going to make the treck Nanouk. Lots of interesting places to visit, good shopping and great food.
