The Divine Devdan Show 10

We are staying at the Samabe Bali Suites and Villas and part of our all-inclusive privileges package is a choice of extra signature activities, one of which is the Devdan Show.

We are about to discover if the Devdan Show lives up to the hype.

At 6pm we are picked up by the included private transfer and driven 10 minutes through the winding back roads of Nusa Dua and into the main resorts enclave.  During the drive our driver tells us a little about the show.

The Devdan Show, Grand Mirage Resort Bali and Samabe Bali Suites and Villas are all owned by the same group.  The Devdan Show began about 2 years ago in the Nusa Dua Theatre (just outside the Bali Collection shopping mall) which seats up to 600 people for the 4 nights a week show.

Our driver escorts us to the entrance, collects our tickets, advises that doors open 15 mins before the show starts at 7pm, and when the show concludes at 8:30pm our hotel driver will be waiting outside.

We wander inside the neighbouring Bali Collection to fill in the time before we can enter the theatre.

Having previously been to the FantaSea show in Phuket and learning how long it took to get inside that theatre I am concerned about the 15 minutes to enter the Nusa Dua Theatre.

But my fears are for nothing, fifteen minute’s is ample time to pose for a photo and be escorted to our seat.

Tonight’s performances begins with 2 actors in monkey costumes clambering about the stage followed by a group of tourists on the lookout for these illusive monkeys.  Two children wonder off and discover a magical treasure chest and are transported to various parts of the Indonesian archipelago: Bali, Sumatra, Java, Bornio, and Papua.  As they visit each region local dances are performed.

The reason I understand so much of what is happening is due to the monitor perched high on the left side of the stage.  Introducing each region and dance as it is being performed, flashing through at least 7 different languages.

The musical show is entertaining with the variety of 4-5 brilliantly choreographed traditional dances from each region; all with different elaborate vibrant costumes and props.  At times there are spectacular aerial routines, a magic stunts, fire displays, major water features, plus those comical monkeys being mischievous – really appealing to my 6-year-old son.

All too soon the hour and half has flown by and this delightful show concludes, leaving me wanting more.

We leave the theatre and as promised our driver is waiting for us to return to the Samabe Bali for a late all-inclusive dinner.
