Busselton is a 2 and a half hour drive south of Perth and offers a great base to explore the entire Margaret River Region during a family holiday or getaway.
Our Family Holidays to Busselton with Kids
We went on a short family holiday to Busselton with kids with my sister’s family a couple of years ago. You can read all about that trip to Busselton with kids HERE.
This time however it was just us – my partner Steve and our 7-year-old son Lewis. We opted to stay at the family friendly holiday park BIG4 Beachlands, in hopes of more children for Lewis to play with. We were not disappointed and you can read all about the BIG4 Beachlands Holiday Park HERE.

We loved Busselton – it was like stepping back in time – we only had 2 nights there. Really fun and relaxed. And good food!
Small towns are like that aren’t they Lydia, it always feels like this was what life was once like before we became big and commercialised.
I know towns located near or in wine country are full of things to do and places to eat. I am sure this town would be lots of fun!
Ruth, good food and wine just seems to go together – not that I’m complaining 😉
It seems like a great place to travel with kids.My son will sure love the water play area! The cave looks wonderful and great to explore with kids.
It has become such a family friendly destination Amila.
It’s always fantastic when kids find other kids. Sounds like a nice easy getaway, which we all need sometimes!
It was a lovely getaway thanks Eileen, a good mix of down time and exploring.
Brusselton looks like a great place to travel with kids. The maze and mini golf look like a blast 🙂
It was a really fun place to visit Rhonda and good to see that other patrons visiting didn’t necessarily have kids – it was a place for all age groups.
I have yet to visit the Margaret River area but it’s high on my list! Looks like fun.
So much to enjoy here Corinne
Sounds like a lovely place for a romantic getaway. For those of us with no munchkins in tow, what other activities would be appropriate for adults to enjoy? (Besides the wine tastings, of course.)
It is a great place to go for a romantic weekend, Before kids we use to spend many weekend getaways in the region and back in the day it was the honeymoon location for Perth people with many including my parents staying at the picturesque colonial Caves House Hotel in Yallingup just down the road fro Ngilgi Cave.
There are also several more caves to explore in the region (Jewel and Mamoth Caves), the rugged coastline is stunning with the Geographe Bay national park sitting at the tip of the coastline jutting out to sea. Apart from the wineries the ocean is the other famous draw card of this region. It offers fantastic surfing and there are several world competitions held here each year. As a result of all the great wineries there are now plenty of locally produced gourmet foods that other tastings throughout the day.
If you are looking for a bit more of a themepark type entertainment there are several mazes we have visited the Amaze’n Margaret River and Yallingup Maze both good fun for all ages. In Busselton town is the Busselton Jetty the longest wooden jetty in the southern hemisphere, you can catch the little train or walk to the end where there is an aqua interpretation centre under the jetty. There is also mini golf, archery, or cycle along the coastline.
I have written several posts on some of these places you can find them all here: http://toddlersontour.com.au/category/family-travel-destinations/australia/western-australia/south-western-australia/
The cave looks pretty cool!! What a nice place for a holiday.
