When you take a family holiday to Sydney there are 2 things that you absolutely must see.
The Sydney Harbour Bridge and the Sydney Opera House.
Fortunately they are not hard to find.
We sail down on the Sydney ferry to start exploring the Sydney harbour front and there it is! Sydney Harbour Bridge standing proudly spanning Port Jackson.
Turn the other way and the Sydney Opera House is jutting out sitting on the water with her white peaks pointing to the sky.
Walking along the water front towards Circular Quay the Sydney Opera House is visible for miles.
Just looking at the intricate architecture you can understand why it is has become an icon for Sydney and Australia since it was completed in 1973.
As we get closure we can see that there is more to this building designed by Jorn Utzon than first meets the eye.
There is a maze of paved stairs and forecourts leading up to the white tiled shells, which are quite awe-inspiring to stand under.
As we make our way on the stone patterned concrete paths around the parameter of the building we end up back on the water front with pretty parkland to one side.
And there in the other direction is the Sydney Harbour Bridge.
Yes they are 2 must see items when you travel to Sydney, but the only way you’ll miss them is if you have your eyes closed.
Have you seen the Sydney Opera House or is it on your bucket list?
Tell me in the comments.

Yes, my daughter and I spent 5 terrific days in Sydney. We really went for the Bi Annual art festival, Bianalle but also went to Luna Park (just visable under your shot of the bridge), Cockatoo Island and Taronga Zoo….one of the best zoos with amazing views of the harbour. We stayed at The Rocks…quite close to your shot of Circular Quay. I look back on that mini holiday with such fondness…only my second time visiting Sydney..Loved It! Your photo’s brought back all the memories.

I’m totally taking my girl to visit this beautiful building in february on our aussie tour! xx cathy
Make sure you do the Opera House tour Cathy, it’s really insightful.
Sydney is definitely on my bucket list! If things go as the husband and I are planning within the next couple of years we’ll be able to do a bunch of traveling…and with as many lovely photos as I have seen of Sydney, it will be high on the list of first stops 😉
Thank you for sharing with us at Photo Friday again this week!
Sydney is such a pretty city so worth a visit. Then pop over to my home city Perth on the other side of Australia, much more laid back.
I can’t believe that I’ve never been to Sydney and see the iconic opera house…gotta go back!
Another one for the bucket list, hey Corinne 🙂
Wow! I love your photos! Just gorgeous. Australia, esp Sidney, is on my travel Bucket list. But it’s a long way from this North Georgia farm! Now I have a hankering to travel! xo jan
Thank you for the compliments on the pictures Jan. As for the hankering for travel – start small and you never know where you will end up.
Seeing the Opera House was tops on our list when we visited Sydney. I thought that seeing the exterior from up close was a very different experience than seeing it from afar as it’s typically shown in photos. The very modern interior was interesting, too. We saw a children’s glow-in-the-dark large-scale puppet show in one of the smaller theatres. I was surprised at how many friends said it never occurred to them to watch a show at the Opera House. It is a performance venue after all. Since it was school break, there were also a lot of children’s activities, too. We ended up spending hours there. Unfortunately, the whole visit ended with my daughter ACCIDENTALLY knocking over a display of Swarovski crystal topped pencils. I had to pay almost $100 for all the pencils with the crystals broken off. Good and bad, it was a memorable experience.
What a great idea to take the kids to see a show whilst visiting Sydney. Our son was just a toddler at the time so I didn’t even contemplate the idea and also steered clear of any exhibitions,
We absolutely loved our tour of Sydney Opera House and also enjoyed a walk across the bridge. I am just writing about our time there now! We stayed in Darling Harbour but everything was just so accessible with the ferry. Great flashback.
Thanks Lyn, I look forward to reading about your Sydney travels
I have seen the Sydney Opera House but I have only been to Sydney a few times and for work only. It is a bizarre city and one that took me a couple of goes to enjoy it. I think it is a little more difficult to get around or maybe figure out how to walk from a to b. I do like a grid, lol. The harbours are beautiful though.
Totally agree Karin, the harbours are sensational.
Not just the Sydney Opera House but the whole Sydney & Australia overall is on my bucket list! 🙂 Thank you for sharing all those interesting photos from various angles. I do hope to see it some day!
Glad you enjoyed the pictures Jolanta.
Ah, love this town! I never get sick of going to the Opera House or that view of the Harbour Bridge x
I can understand why Grace – just lovely!
