My BIG4 Beachlands Holiday Park Review 6

During the recent school holidays of April 2016 we took a welcome family getaway/holiday to Busselton with kid(s) with the aim of exploring the entire Margaret River Region.

I quite like using Busselton as a base for our family holidays to the Margaret River Region as:

  1. Busselton is only 2½ hours from Perth
  2. I consider Busselton the start of the entire Margaret River Region and easy to loop via Bussell Hwy or Caves Road down to further attractions towards Margaret River.
  3. Busselton is on the beach with a lovely boardwalk.
  4. There are lost of different types of family accommodations available in Busselton.

For this family holiday to Busselton and the Margaret River Region we choose to stay at the BIG4 Beachlands Holiday Park and book through their website.  The reasons I chose to stay at the BIG4 Beachlands Holiday Park over other accommodation is:

  1. Our son Lewis is an only child so my partner Steve and I want to stay somewhere we know there will be other children.
  2. The wide range of chalets – we find one to meet our needs.
  3. The flexibility with choosing to stay for only a short getaway.
  4. The added kid friendly facilities at the BIG4 Beachlands Holiday Park.

So did the BIG4 Beachlands Holiday Park measure up to our expectations for our little family holiday to Busselton with kid(s).

Review of BIG4 Beachlands Holiday Park

We arrive at the BIG4 Beachlands Holiday Park at 4 pm.  We purposely left Perth just after lunch to ensure we arrive not long after the 3pm check-in time.

The Ensuite Chalet at BIG4 Beachlands Holiday Park

We are swiftly checked in, given maps of the Margaret River Region, a password for the free WiFi, then shown to our Ensuite Chalet located at the front of the park.

At first the chalet feels a little small.  But we quickly acclimatise to the clean setting.  I chose this style of chalet because:

  • It is economical.
  • The main bedroom is separate from the living space and has plenty of storage.
  • The bunk beds located in the hallway can be shut off from the living area at night so our son can sleep whilst we stay up.
  • There is a separate compact bathroom off the hall and a large storage cupboard with ironing board, bed rails and clothes horse.
  • There is a fully equipped kitchen, dining, TV and couch with a reverse cycle air-conditioned.  My only suggestion is that a small ottoman on wheels would have been a great addition to use as a coffee table/extra lounge seat or to put up our feet whilst relaxing in front of the telly.

The Kid Friendly Facilities at BIG4 Beachlands Holiday Park

Apart from having this chalet configuration the other reason for choosing to stay at BIG4 Beachlands Holiday Park is the kid facilities.  (For us travelling with an only child we feel confident that there will be other kids for our son to play with – if there are kid friendly facilities and we are not disappointed with this theory on this family holiday to Busselton with kids.)

Our son Lewis and I head out to explore the park and quickly locate the jumping pillow that is adorned with children.

Behind the jumping pillow is a toddler playground and the ever so much fun NEO 360.  An energetic game that you have to dash about and touch the coloured buttons as they flash on, the more buttons you reach the higher your score.  This is a great way to get the kids to burn off energy, and I will send Lewis down there quite often over the coming days.

The other things that are great to amuse the kids is the school holiday scheduled activities offered Monday to Friday.  But it is the weekend so we don’t get the opportunity to try them out.

However what we are loving is hiring the buggy once a day for ($10/hour) for races around the caravan park.  When Lewis isn’t on the buggy he races about on his scooter.  (We find the scooter is easy to pack in the car as it is so much smaller than the bike).

OK so Steve and I had a go on the buggy as well 🙂

Around the far side of the “racetrack”, behind the playground is the fenced off splash park.  Whilst it isn’t the best of weather to enjoy the water attractions the kids still enjoy running under the tipping buckets and being sprayed by jets of water.

More Facilities at BIG4 Beachlands Holiday Park

Next to the splash park is a pool for everyone to enjoy.  The BIG4 Beachlands Holiday Park advertise it is heated but it is way too cold for me to jump in.  But that doesn’t deter others 🙂

You have to remember that BIG4 Beachlands is a holiday/caravan park and not a resort, so there are lots of other families and couples camping or caravanning.  The park also offers:

  • Large ablution blocks that include a laundry facility for all staying in the park.
  • A large camp kitchen with BBQ’s, tables, TV and table tennis.
  • Plus a smaller BBQ area near the all the chalets
  • A separate fish cleaning station.

If you are not into fishing that’s ok because taking a family holiday to Busselton with kids offers so many great things to do, see and taste.  In reception there is a wall full of brochures to help you make a decision on how to fill your days in the Margaret River Region.

All too soon our short family getaway to Busselton with kid(s) has come to an end.  But the BIG4 Beachlands Holiday Park ensure that the kids continue to stay happy during the drive home with a great little activity pack for the car, containing colouring, jigsaw and stickers.

I have to say what a thoughtful gesture to finish off a great family stay.
