Whilst surfing around Pinterest I have found some examples of airline child meals to give you a glimpse of what to expect.
Now I’ve mentioned to you before in the Flying with Kids Tip Pages, that it is a good idea to pre-order a child meal for your kid when making your booking, or at least do this a couple of days before flying out – when you make your confirmation call. I have to say I like to make this call because the airlines usually get a few more details from you than the travel agent has forwarded eg. mobile numbers for SMS flight updates and accommodation details. It’s up to you it is not essential but I like to do it. Anyway back to the airline child’s meal. Now remember that whilst you have ordered this meal for your child, there is no guarantee that your kids will like the meal. So I always suggest adding your own snacks into your hand luggage. So let’s have a look at what you can expect.
5 Types of Airline Child Meals on Pinterest.
1. Business class choice
Now we would all like to fly business class for the room and the service. On Singapore Airlines they extend that service through to a choice of kids meals.

2. Think about the airline’s country origins
If you’re flying a foreign carrier what they serve children could be very different to what you would serve your kids at home.
3. Novelty airlines
Whilst some airlines are starting to put restrictions on where they seat families with young children others are embracing the family travel market. Eva Air has introduced 3 aircraft with a “Hello Kitty” theme.
4. Special child meal extras
Other airlines will give your kids extras like activity packs and on Thai Airways when you fly out of Thailand your kids will receive an additional snack box before take off, plus their child’s meal during service – perhaps you won’t have to pack those snacks after all.
5. Baby meal
If you have a baby you can also order a baby meal when you make your booking, but bare in mind this could be all that you get. Best if you pack your own supplies.

We are flying to Adelaide from Brisbane at the end of this month and I will definitely be packing food for both my bub and three year old. It is one activity to keep them entertained on the 3 hour flight. It’s interesting what the airlines offer as children’s meals. When I was a kid, the times we would fly on a plane, the food tray was always the exciting part to see what you would get.
Even as an adult, don’t you find it a bit exciting (probably no the right word) about what you will get to eat or the very least what movie will be available.
Bec please pop back to Toddlers on Tour for packing lists and other helpful info as your trip to Brisbane draws near.
I always pack heaps of snacks for my little girl when we fly. I just have to be careful that we eat any fruit en route as there are many Australian states where we cant take in any uneaten fruit (like Tassie).
Some of those lunch boxes look yummy! I’d eat them myself 🙂
I have to admit Wendy there are times when my son has received his inflight meal and I wished that was mine. Often so much better than the main meal being served.
You sold me at Singapore airlines. Is there nothing that airline wont do to be the best?
So true Becc, just wish I could afford to sit up front to get those meals.
Emirates did a lovely snack box( crisps, a biscuit, and yoghurt covered raisins) which came out with a meal of bread, crackers, cheese, chicken nuggets and veg, and a dessert. I didn’t need to pack any snacks at all.
Isn’t it wonderful Kirsty when you a nice surprise like that when you fly. Some airlines can be really good with kids.
My kids would probably die at the site of that sushi meal. Come to think of it, they would die a the site of the Hello Kitty meal too. Boys! Fascinating look at food on planes. Thanks for sharing.
Exactly Jessica, there is no way my son would those meals either.
I like the Asiana Air child meal! Maybe it’s because I’m Asian. 🙂 I think that it’s always a good idea to prepare when kids are involved.
