When packing toiletries for travel there are endless items that you can include.
But what are the must have items you need to take no matter what type of travel you are about to embark upon?
These are my top 5 essential toiletries to pack when you travel.
5 Top Toiletries to Pack
It doesn’t matter if you are embarking on a family holiday, backpacking, staying in a luxury resort or camping; you will want these five items to have you looking and feeling fresh.
Deodorant
When you travel you end up in confined places like planes, cars, buses etc. There is nothing worse than being stuck next to somebody with bad body odour. So don’t be the person that everyone is glaring at.
Toothbrush and Toothpaste
Bad breath is nearly as bad as bad body odour, keep those pearly whites looking bright and shiny.
Shaving Gear
Male or female we all need to shave unwanted hair.
Men you have that clean breath so keep that stubble at bay – you never know how much affection you may receive. And girls if those legs haven’t been attended to – well that kiss ain’t going to get you anywhere.
Shampoo and Conditioner
When you travel you end up being quite active: swimming, skiing, hiking etc. Not to mention that after a few days your hair just gets limp and oily.
Whilst many hotels do provide shampoo and conditioner, they are not the best quality and may strip your hair of nutrients. So pack some small bottles of your favourite shampoo and conditioner. If your worried about space buy empty small containers from the supermarket (found in the toiletry isle) and create your own travel set.
Hair Brush and Comb
Finally at the very least you will want to run a brush or comb through your hair to prevent it being knotted and looking like a bird’s nest (unless of course that was the look you were going for 🙂 )
This has been my first infographic I would love to hear what you think.

My tablets always top this list. After those, I agree with yours!
Medication is definitely an essential Emily, I will have to create an Essentials First Aid Kit inforgraphic as well.
Ah yes, my toiletry bag includes all of those things. I also keep some pads/tampons cos… well, one never knows! 🙂
Oh and my medications!
Ah yes as a woman Deborah, I always have these packed in my hand bag and suitcase. As you said you never know.
Sounds like a good list to me!
Thanks Leanne
I think you hit the important ones! There is nothing worse than hotel shampoo!
True Corinne, except for the awful instant sachets of coffee – but that’s a whole other post 😉
LOL, You are soooo right! I bring tea and coffee packets with me. At least I know how old they are!
Thanks, for linking up with #wkendtravelinspiration!
Great idea Corinne.
Oh yes, this are real necessities. I have all my toiletries in a bag. Every time I go out for a weekend or on a long trip, I just trough the bag on my luggage. In that way, I do not forget the essentials. You have no idea of how many times I forgot to pack a hair brush. That was until I bought one and add it to my toiletries bag.
That’s a good idea buying a second hair brush Ruth, I always have a hand written note on top of my packed bag to remind me to pack the hair brush at the last moment as brushing my hair is one of the last things I do before walking out the door.
A second hair brush! Brilliant idea. I need to do this, too. Nice infographic. I haven’t attempted to create one myself. One of my essentials is moisturizer with sunscreen.
A moisturiser with sunscreen is a great idea Michele, I love products that have a dual function.
I think you forgot to mention the face-cream. I can’t go anywhere without it, my face is very dry. I always have a bag of toiletries ready-made so that I just grab it and throw it in the luggage when I pack.
Great idea having toiletry bags and alike ready packed, that means ready to travel at a moments notice 🙂
I’ll second those who suggested buying duplicates of everything so you don’t forget the essentials. I also like to keep an elastic hair tie in the bag so I have a way to keep my hair off my neck if it gets hot.
I really like your infographic, Sally. Did it take long to create? What program did you use?
Oh yes, I have an elastic tie tucked away in my toiletry bag as well Linda.
Moisturizer! Hot or cold weather this one always seems to come in essential when we’re travelling!
Totally agree Keri, my face moisturiser is a must. hmm might need a cosmetic bag essentials.
Nice Infographic! The only essentials I’d add is my contact lense pot and solution. I never leave home without them 🙂 #MondayEscapes
I can totally see (no pun intended :)) what that is an essential Claire.
My toiletry bag is probably more stuffed than it should be. I supposed as you get older you get fussier. I consider where I’m staying, if I’m likely to like the hotel’s soap, shampoo, etc. or prefer my own. if i’m staying in a vacation home I definitely bring my own. Moisturizer and conditioner are important because there are many reasons your skin/hair gets dry on vacation (outdoors in the cold, salt water, pool chlorine, etc. ).
Totally agree Eileen. The toiletry bag I packed in my 20’s when I was backpacking is totally different to the one I pack now in my 40’s.
I forget my hair brush the last time I went travelling but then with my unmanageable mop I doubt anyone noticed anything different (and I did have a comb).
haha Rosie, I always leave a note on my suitcase to remind myself of the last few items I have to pack and the hairbrush is always on the list.
Definitely a first-aid kit – even plasters and pain killers can come in so handy! Thanks for linking up with #MondayEscapes
I’ve always travelled with a basic first kit as well Ting – even when I backpacked.
