Just about everyone knows one – the travel enthusiast.
You know the person. At the mere mention of flights, hotels, or far away destinations they become excited, animated and well just won’t stop talking about travel even when your eyes glaze over.
I know exactly the type of person they are – because I’m one of them. So what better Christmas present to buy me or any of my fellow travellers is a useful travel gadget.
But as a non traveller how do you know which travel gadget is useful?
Don’t worry I’ve created a list for you.

My top 10 picks for useful travel gadget Christmas present ideas.
1. First aid kit
A well stocked medical kit is a must have item for anyone who travels from the backpacker to the luxury traveller, and there is an option to match each type of traveller.
2. Headlamps
The first time I saw these was on a contestants head of the Amazing Race. But you don’t have to be hurtling around the world at breakneck speed to make use of these handy torches. They are great for BBQing at night or reading a book when all the lights need to be out in the room.
3. Mobile phone mount
We all know driving while using you mobile phone is dangerous. So keep the entire family safe when you are chatting or looking up Google maps on your road trips. You can read how we use ours and stay safe on road trips HERE.
4. Multi-use tool
You just never know when you could do with a sharp knife or screwdriver, this compact nifty tool is great for all travellers and there is a tool to match each person.
5. Packing Cubes
For those who like to be super organised or those who need to sort and pack handy things (like charging cables).
6. Pegless Clothesline
To me this is a must-have item no matter who the traveller. I first discovered them when I was backpacking to hang out my nightly hand washing and now I still use them to hang out our wet bathers.
7. Picnic bag
There is nothing like a well-stocked picnic basket for the camper, but don’t forget about those who like to day-trip or just want to pack a picnic. I love my picnic bag that has a wheely cooler bag and a zip on crockery and cutlery bag.
8. Scrubba
This is a new product just launched in Australia, I told you about it recently when I gave you some tips on washing clothes when travelling. It is a really cool gadget for any traveller, you can buy it online direct through Scrubba.
9. Sleeping bag sheet
This is a smart idea for the backpacker or camper; I can also see the benefit if you don’t want to pay for a roll-away bed knowing that there is a sofa in your hotel room for the kids. Sleeping bag sheets are made of cotton or silk (I had a silk one that rolled up really small when I was backpacking).
10. Toiletry bags
I find there are so many toiletry items to pack, I want to be able to just pick up a bag and head straight to the bathroom.

Ooh, I like the sleeping bag sheet and the pegless clothes line! Great ideas, thanks. #teamIBOT
Glad you found some inspiration Emily.
I love my headlamp- good choice to put on the list. But now I feel that I need a picnic basket. I usually just pack my dorky lunch bag for work and put what won’t fit into my backpack- a real picnic cooler would be great!
Well you can pop it on your Christmas List for Santa, Andrea – you never know 🙂
First aid kit. What a great idea!
Thank Lydia, you could also create your own more personalised version.
Great gifts there, love the clothing cubes, haven’t seen them before.
They are a cool idea Lisa, especially if you have multiple peoples stuff packed in the one bag – you easily get to each persons items.
You have reminded me to ask for packing cubes for Christmas – thanks.
Glad to help Lyn, have a great Christmas and I hope you get those packing cubes – love to hear what you think of them.
I think there is nothing better than a sleeping bag sheet. It can be used to put down on a dodgy mattress as well.
Totally agree Corinne, I often used mine just on the mattress when I was backpacking, and opened my sleeping bag up like a blanket.
Some truly fabulous products here Sally. Those packing cubes are genius! Been meaning to buy some of them for such a long time. Xx
Hopefully Santa will bring you some packing cubes Shannon.
I love the idea of sleeping bag sheets! That is awesome!
We usually leave the bed made in the camper trailer, but these would be handy for camping.
Certainly would Jess, washing sheets is way easier than having to wash all those sleeping bags after a camping trip.
I saw the Scrubba bag when I was researching Holiday presents for my blog. It looks handy. I definitely wouldn’t relish getting a laundry bag for Christmas though (lol). The clothes line looks very handy. Hotels always put the clothesline in the bathroom where nothing dries, so i’m constantly draping bathing suits and wet clothes over lamps, chairs, etc. all over the room.
I also find Eileen that those hotel clothes lines are never long enough to fit every ones, clothes and/or bathers.
I need to get some of those packing cubes. I travel only with a carry on and that will be a great way to keep things together and save space. I also like the picnic set. I forget stuff all the time. The worst thing is when you need a knife to cut something.
I love the first aid kit idea! A definite must for family travelers! Kids always find ways to hurt themselves, right? Also the head light is awesome for campers and RVers! I could have used one on my last camping trip…trying to find my way to the bathroom at night! Yikes.
Oh I remember the days of stumbling to the toilet block in the middle of the night 🙂 Headlamps would so have helped Amanda.
