Lose the Kids at Yallingup Maze 6

Things to do with Kids in Busselton – Yallingup Maze

Have you ever gone out for the day with the kids and wished you could lose them?

Then taking the kids to Yallingup Maze or any maze for that matter could be the answer.

During the last weekend of the October school holidays we headed down to Busselton with my sister’s family for a getaway.  But with 2 pre-primary boys and a teenager between us we had to find a way to burn off their energy, get a little space and have fun for the entire 2 families.

Yallingup Maze was a great morning out.

Yallingup is only 29km south of Busselton and takes you into the beginning of the heart of the South West Wine Region of Western Australia.

We bought our tickets and were given red glasses to see the “puzzle/clues” as you make your way through the maze.

The objective at Yallingup Maze is to find your way through to all 4 towers – situated at each corner of the maze.

Can you find your way out?

It didn’t take long for my timid son to take off with his cousins and enjoy running about the maze of wooden corridors with sneaky trap doors as he located each of the 4 towers.

It however, took me a bit longer to find my way as I continued to backtrack down the same path and feel a little frustrated, as I could see I wanted to be in the corridor parallel – I just could not get there.

However no sooner was I finally starting to find my than the kids found me.  As they were now experts on the entire maze they endeavoured to take me through – of course you don’t get the same satisfaction being guided as you do if you find your way yourself.

But all in all we all had a fun time.

Once we had all congregated at the last tower we exited and went into the Yallingup Maze Cafe`.

They offer coffee and a nice selection of food at a reasonable price.

You don’t have to purchase anything and you can still sit down and tackle a selection of puzzles/brain teasers.

Whilst we sat there we offered our kids some pre-packed snacks and water from our day bags.

Solving the puzzle

If you think you don’t know where to start don’t worry, the wonderful co-owner walks about the cafe` offering suggestions for puzzles to tackle and will explain how to attempt the puzzle.

We sat here for over an hour and would have been happy to stay, but our energetic boy had discovered the bouncy castle outside!

It was then that we noticed that you could also bring your own picnic and enjoy the facilities.

This is really a wonderful family day trip, in an area that was not so long ago dominated with wineries for the DINK (double income no kids) market.
